Joel Young
Joel Young has been playing and performing in many styles and with many instruments since he was in grade school. His interest in music began when he was very young. In 5th grade, he began playing the violin. In 8th grade, he switched to voice. After graduation from North Side High School (1986), he attended IPFW - majoring in Music Education with a primary concentration in voice and secondary concentrations in piano and guitar. While attending IPFW, Joel played bass in the IPFW vocal jazz ensemble as well as in local rock bands Blah Blah Blah and Rhino. He has also logged several hours in recording studios on many different occasions recording bass, guitar, piano and vocals (lead and harmony). He is the current lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist for local band ButtonHead. In the last eight years, while in ButtonHead, Joel has played bass, guitar, keyboard, and song flute as well as lead vocals. Joel has an extensive understanding of music theory and wishes to enlighten today’s youth of it’s importance. Joel is currently teaching himself resonator or slide guitar (also called dobro). His influences range from classical music to today’s country to modern rock/alternative. Some of his favorites are: Mozart, Rush, Sammy Hagar, Vivaldi, Brad Paisley, Alison Krauss, Hank Williams, Roger Miller, Green Day, Blink 182 and Toby Keith.
